Prince Harry has revealed Prince William‘s surprising reaction to Meghan Markle‘s pregnancy announcement
Since the couple stepped back from royal life in 2020, the Duke of Sussex has made various revelations about the family, both in their bombshell Netflix series and in his memoir ‘Spare.’
Though many have been considered damaging to senior members of the firm, some have, instead, been heartwarming.
One of these was Prince William’s reaction to Markle’s pregnancy announcement.
As per Prince Harry, the couple told Prince William at a royal wedding – namely Princess Eugenie’s in October 2018.
In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex, 41, wrote about his older brother’s reaction to the news that they were expecting their first child, now known as Prince Archie.
Prince Harry noted how he felt the wedding was the right opportunity to tell his close relatives about the baby.
He wrote: “After the drinks reception, in St George’s Hall, Meg and I pulled Willy aside.
“We were in a big room, suits of armour on the walls. Strange room, strange moment.”
The now dad-of-two added: “We whispered the news, and Willy smiled and said ‘We must tell Kate.’”
Prince Harry continued: “She was across the room, talking to Pippa.
“I said we could do it later, but he insisted.
“So we went and told Kate and she also gave a big smile and hearty congratulations.
“They both reacted exactly as I’d hoped.”
Announcing the news in 2018, Kensington Palace said: “Their royal highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May, and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
Following their departure from royal life, the two brothers are yet to see eye-to-eye.
The couple’s 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, followed by the prince’s book, is believed to have been the final straw in their relationship for William.
The Duke was recently back in the U.K. for the WellChild Awards, of which he is a charity patron, where he spoke about his love for his native country.
Prince Harry noted: “I have enjoyed the week… I have always loved the U.K. and I always will love the U.K.
“It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about.
“I have been able to spend some time with people that I have known for so long.
“It is hard to do it from far away.”
