WHAT IS PCOS?
The polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine condition that is caused by an increased level of androgens, or male hormones in women.
Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to this increase in the hormone levels. The disease has a wide range of symptoms that are similar to other diseases, which means that it is often difficult for doctors to diagnose it.
A research shows this condition may be related to insulin, becausepolycystic ovary syndrome is common in women who have high levels of insulin. About 2 – 20 % of the female population between the age of 18-44 are affected by POS.
This condition represents a risk factor for some diseases, for example, heart disease, diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, and some types of c.a.n.c.e.r.
