A father was furious as he stood outside the house and shouted:
“Which one of you poured the chamber pot into the river just now?!”
Three boys stood silently, avoiding eye contact.
The father narrowed his eyes.
“Alright… I want the truth. And don’t forget—George Washington was honest when he cut down his father’s cherry tree. And his father forgave him for telling the truth.”
The first boy immediately stepped forward.
“It was me, Dad…”
The father sighed, picked up a stick, and prepared to punish him.
Suddenly, the boy protested:
“But you just said Washington told the truth and got forgiven!”
The father paused… then calmly replied:
“Yes. But George Washington’s father wasn’t standing under the tree when it happened.”
