A Lab Rabbit Escaped Into Paradise. Why He Voluntarily Went Back Left Everyone Shocked.
A laboratory rabbit finally managed to break free from the cages where he had been born, raised, and experimented on his entire life.
As he scurried past the final security fence of the compound, he felt real grass beneath his paws and saw the morning sun breaking over the horizon for the very first time.
“Wow, this is incredible!” he thought, his little heart racing with excitement.
It wasn’t long before he came across a thick hedge. Squeezing his way through, he stumbled upon a breathtaking sight—dozens of other rabbits, completely free, happily nibbling on the lush green pasture.
“Hey there!” he called out nervously. “I just escaped from the research lab down the road. Are you guys… wild rabbits?”
“We sure are! Come on over and join us!” they cheered welcomingly.
The lab rabbit hopped over, still a bit cautious. “So, what exactly do you wild rabbits do out here all day?”
One of the wild rabbits pointed toward a nearby plot of land. “You see that field over there? It’s packed with fresh carrots. We just dig them up and eat them whenever we want.”
The lab rabbit couldn’t resist. He spent the next hour gorging himself on the most succulent, sweet carrots he had ever tasted. They were a million times better than lab pellets. Completely satisfied, he hopped back to the group and asked, “What else do you guys do for fun?”
Another wild rabbit grinned. “You see that field on the left? It’s full of crisp, organic lettuce. We eat that too!”
The lab rabbit dashed over and feasted on the premium lettuce until his belly was completely round. He waddled back to the group, absolutely stuffed.
“It is absolutely fantastic out here in the real world,” he told them, beaming with joy.
“So, are you going to stay and live with us permanently?” one of the wild rabbits asked, smiling.
The lab rabbit paused, looked back in the direction of the sterile concrete buildings, and sighed. “I’m really sorry guys. I had an absolutely wonderful time… but I have to go back.”
The wild rabbits all stared at him, completely baffled. “Go back?! Why on earth would you do that? We thought you loved it here!”
“Oh, I do,” the lab rabbit replied, shivering a little. “But I really must get back to the laboratory. I am absolutely dying for a cigarette.”
