An elderly lady got on a bus one afternoon carrying a large bag of peanuts.
As she sat near the front, she smiled warmly at the bus driver and handed him a small handful.
“Well, thank you kindly,” the driver said, happily eating them while driving.
A few minutes later, the old woman tapped him on the shoulder again and handed him another handful.
The driver laughed.
“You’re spoiling me now!”
Again, he ate them.
A little later, she offered him even more peanuts.
This time the driver smiled politely and said,
“Oh no, ma’am, that’s alright. Why don’t you keep them for yourself?”
The old lady shook her head.
“Oh, I couldn’t possibly eat them myself.”
The driver glanced at her in the mirror.
“Why not?”
The elderly woman sighed dramatically.
“Well dear, I have no teeth anymore.”
The driver suddenly looked confused.
“Wait a minute… if you can’t eat peanuts, why do you keep buying them?”
The old lady smiled sweetly and replied,
“Oh, I don’t eat the peanuts.”
The driver frowned.
“You don’t?”
“Nope,” she said cheerfully. “I only like the chocolate coating around them.”
