Cameron Diaz caused a controversy online after she revealed the name of the baby she welcomed at age 51

Cameron Diaz became a mother for the second time in 2024, and her choice of baby name has sparked controversy.

Diaz, along with her husband Benji Madden, announced the exciting news in March 2024.

Diaz and Madden first met in 2014 and married in a private ceremony at their Beverly Hills home in January 2015.

When their first child, Raddix, was born in December 2019, the pair astonished fans with the announcement.

Diaz has always been determined to keep her children’s life out of the spotlight.

Diaz has publicly discussed the joy of parenthood. In a 2020 interview with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she described parenting as “the best thing that ever happened” to her.

She expressed similar sentiments on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022, emphasizing the significance of guiding her child through emotions.

Announcing the birth of their latest son last year, the couple wrote: “We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden.”

“He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids’ safety and privacy, we won’t be posting any pictures – but he’s really cute. We are feeling so blessed and grateful. Sending much love from our fam to yours.”

While the news seemed innocent enough, folks couldn’t help but express their thoughts on the new baby’s name.

One person wrote: “Cameron Diaz + Benji Madden = CARDINAL Madden. I mean name your kids whatever you want, but that’s terrible.”

A second person added: “What a silly name to give a child!”

However, among all of the negative folks, some propagated optimism.

One person wrote: “Love Cardinal!! It’s a beautiful name!”

A second said: “Different names are in and I like it!”

The couple’s announcement generated an outpouring of love from fans and other celebrities.

Singer Katy Perry congratulated Cardinal, calling him “another earth angel,” while Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz responded with a sequence of flashing emojis.

Lionel Richie, a music star, too expressed his congrats, by adding a heart emoji to the tweet.
