Donald Trump bizarrely claims son Barron has ‘unbelievable aptitude for technology’ for being able to turn on a laptop

Social media users are having a field day after Donald Trump claimed his son Barron has an “unbelievable aptitude for technology”—all because he managed to turn on a laptop.

During a recent interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, the 78-year-old former president covered a range of topics, from his sleep habits to trade negotiations with China. At one point, he took a moment to praise his children, saying they were intelligent, hardworking, and patriotic.

Speaking about Barron, who turned 19 on March 20, Trump boasted about his son’s technological skills, recounting an anecdote that left many scratching their heads.

“He can look at a computer… I turned off his laptop, and I thought, ‘Good,’” Trump recalled. “Then, about five minutes later, I come back, and it’s on again. I asked, ‘How did you do that?’ He’s got an unbelievable aptitude in technology.”

The comment quickly went viral, with critics pointing out that restarting a laptop is far from a remarkable feat—especially for someone in college.

One user sarcastically wrote, “BREAKING: The President of the United States is amazed that his college-age son can turn a laptop back on after it was turned off. This is not normal. Weekly cognitive tests should be mandatory.”

Another joked, “Stop the press. Trump’s son can turn on a laptop!!!!” while a third mocked, “Donald Trump just admitted he knows absolutely NOTHING about computers, technology, or young people. Beyond embarrassing.”

Others ridiculed Trump’s statement, with one person laughing, “So his tech skills are measured by turning a laptop on and off? Lmao, GT**H.”

Despite the online mockery, a few were willing to humor the former president. “Before you criticize Barron Trump, try turning on a laptop that’s been shut down. It’s not as easy as it looks,” one user quipped.

Barron’s Supposed Influence on the 2024 Campaign

This isn’t the first time Trump has praised Barron. He previously credited his son with helping him connect with younger voters, particularly by suggesting he appear on popular podcasts like those hosted by Joe Rogan and Theo Von.

“He knew the youth vote,” Trump said. “We won the youth vote by 36 points, and he was telling me, ‘Dad, you gotta do this one or that one,’ so we did a lot of them. He really understood that world.”

Melania Trump also shared her pride in Barron’s political instincts, saying, “He’s a grown young man, and I’m very proud of him—his knowledge, even about politics, and the advice he gives his father. He brought in so many young people.”

She emphasized Barron’s understanding of his generation, noting, “Young people don’t sit in front of the TV anymore. They’re on tablets, phones, podcasts, and streaming platforms.”

“He was very vocal and gave his father great advice,” she added. “It was incredible how he helped bring success by knowing exactly who his father needed to connect with.”
