For a relationship to thrive and both partners to feel pleased and happy next to the person they chose to be with, trust, understanding, commitment, and support are required. If any of these elements are lacking, the relationship may begin to deteriorate.

A lady turned to Reddit to discuss how her five-year relationship deteriorated after he suspected her of ᴄʜᴇᴀᴛɪɴɢ without providing any evidence.

She began her narrative by questioning how someone she had been with for wife years and married for two weeks could harm her so badly and ruin her image over a cologne-like fragrance he observed in their apartment.

It all began when her husband was requested to stay with his mother for a few days since she had broken her hip and required surgery after her husband inadvertently hit her with the car while backing up the driveway.

The woman was busy working, so she stayed home while her husband was at his parents’ place.

After a few days, he arrived home and questioned the woman why the apartment, particularly the bedroom, smelt like cologne. She admitted she had no idea and declined to address the topic further because she was late for work. However, when she went home from work later that day, the locks had been changed, and she could not enter the house.

Not knowing what to do, she went to her mother’s house, where she spent the following few days. Her husband refused to answer the phone, but his mother did call with her, accusing her and requesting that she return the wedding ring, which cost $18,000.

What’s more, her husband and mother-in-law informed everyone in the family that the woman was a cheater and threatened to initiate the annulment procedure. As everyone close to the woman learned “what she had done,” her phone never went silent.

Devastated, she attempted to contact her husband, but he only responded to text messages and refused to speak to her.

Eventually, she figured out where that “cologne” smell came from.

Writing on Reddit, she revealed that her husband despises fish, particularly the smell, so she prepared some for her when he was away, and to get rid of the fish smell, she used scented wipes and tied them to the rear of the fan in her bedroom, which is usually turned on. As she grew accustomed to the smell, she didn’t expect her husband to mistake the wipes for cologne.

When she figured it out, she contacted her husband, asking him to look in the bathroom trashcan for the packages and on the back of the fan for the wipes.

The next day, he knocked on her mother’s home, imploring her to forgive him. His explanation for his suspicions that she was cheating on him was that “I’ve always thought you’re too good to be with someone like me,” which wasn’t much of a comfort.

She did return home, but nothing seemed right after that terrible occurrence that demonstrated his lack of faith in her. She wrote that she hoped to spend some time with her mother before deciding what to do next.

Redditors quickly responded to her post, sharing similar experiences with their partners and offering support and advice.

“I’m hurt and angry for you! Reading this made me feel rage! I couldn’t go back. You are a stronger than me. That right there is so immature of your husband. How could he not talk to you before changing the locks. Given you a chance to talk it out first before jumping to conclusions. I’d leave. My trust and my heart would be broke. Sure therapy if you really want to save the marriage. But things will never be the same. Best wishes,” one person wrote.

“He showed you not only who he is, but what he truly thinks about you. What you do with that information, only you can decide,” another added.

“He locked you out of your own home. Had he not changed his mind, you’d have nothing. Get rid of him and his family. Fast,” a third added.
