It was devastating to see a mama dog and her eight puppies abandoned and fending for herself, but they are now receiving an inspirational new start.
Knotty Creek Animal Rescue in Sweet Home, Oregon, tweeted a tale on March 30 about a “distressing situation” and a “scene of unimaginable cruelty and neglect.”
A local citizen discovered a mother dog tied to a tree with her eight puppies, “in complete terror,” they posted on Facebook.
According to KATU, the dogs had nothing to eat except a nearby deer carcass.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the mother dog looked to be tough, caring for her puppies as best she could, and exuding a “aura of sweetness and trust.”
Fortunately, Knotty Creek Animal Rescue had enough capacity to take in all nine canines. In updates, they stated that the puppies, seven boys and one girl, were lively and playful.
“They are settled in pretty well, playing with toys bugging mom who has done nothing but catch up on much needed sleep,” Knotty Creek wrote on Facebook. “It’s wonderful to see them adjust so quickly.”
Besides getting some well-deserved rest, the mama dog has been recovering from a leg injury. She will have a vet appointment in a few days. The rescue said she is “definitely ready for the puppies to go.”
According to Oregon Live, the rescue believes the dogs are Asian shepherds aged 9 to 12 weeks.
Knotty Creek has began taking adoption applications, so maybe all of the puppies will find their forever homes soon.
It’s horrific that someone would tie up and dump this adorable mother dog in the woods, but we’re relieved she and her puppies are now in good hands; we hope they’re all adopted into loving homes soon!
