Prince Harry reconciled with his dad King Charles III for the first time in 19 months, as he joined him for a private tea at Clarence House on Wednesday (10 September).
The Duke of Sussex has had a somewhat rough relationship with his closest family members since he and wife, Meghan Markle, resigned from their royal duties and moved to California in 2020.
The couple’s reasoning behind the move was that they demanded space to nuture their son, Prince Archie, now six, and their daughter Princess Lilibet, who is now four years old, was born there shortly after in 2021.
Harry and Meghan also excellently made headlines as on numerous encounters they spoke up about their alleged mistreatment of the Suits star, by other royals.
But now that Harry has caught up with the King, it appears that his relationship with his family may be improving.
The pair’s long-awaited meeting took place just before Harry headed to undergo corporate sponsors and government ministers at an Invictus reception at The Gherkin in London on Wednesday evening.
His directed chat with his dad lasted 54 minutes, arriving in a black Range Rover at 5.20pm and leaving at 6.14pm.
Buckingham Palace announced that Harry joined Charles for tea – marking the first time the father and son have met each other since February 2024, when he travelled to the UK to see the king after his cancer diagnosis.
It appears that that the chat went well, as Harry was asked how his father was by a reporter precisely after arriving at the Invictus reception, and he looked to be in good spirits as he replied: “Yes he’s great, thank you.”
The meeting happens after the Duke publicly showed hopes of a reconciliation with his family in May.
He told the BBC that he didn’t want to combat them anymore and would ‘love reconciliation’ because of there being ‘so many disagreements’ over the years.
He shared: “There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.
“You know, he won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to – it would be nice to reconcile.”
But, it seems hat Harry is yet to make amends with, is his brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.
Harry reportedly keeps estranged from the Prince of Wales, who has been keeping busy with a slew of engagements this week.
While the meeting was continued, William was away in Cardiff on Wednesday visiting a new mental health hub on World Suicide Prevention Day.
He’s predicted to conduct a final engagement with the Diana Award in London before travelling back to Meghan and his kids.
