Ways To Keep Ginger Fresh For A Long Time

Ginger is a popular spice, often stored in the family kitchen for convenient use. Ginger is not only used in cooking but is also considered a medicine, helping to treat many diseases.

Ginger has a spicy taste, hot properties, eliminates fishy odors, and adds flavor to dishes.
Ginger is sold in all markets and supermarkets. Most people will buy a moderate amount of ginger to store at home for convenient use. However, purchased ginger left for a few days will wilt or sprout, become moldy, and be thrown away, which is a waste. To preserve ginger for a long time, follow some methods below.

Preserve ginger with dry tea

Take some dry tea and wrap it in tissue paper or newspaper (you can use tea bags for convenience). Put the ginger in a plastic bag, then put the tea bag in, tie the bag tightly and keep it in a cool place. Tea will absorb moisture, helping the ginger stay dry and not rot. Occasionally you should open the bag to check. If you find the tea bag is damp, replace it with a new one. Remove the ginger inside, dry it, then put it back in the bag.

Preserve ginger with salt

Salt is a spice that is always available in the kitchen. You can use it to preserve ginger.
You can also put salt in plastic wrap, put ginger on top and wrap tightly, squeezing out all the air. Put the ginger package in the refrigerator to preserve.

Preserve ginger with baking soda

Prepare a box, line it with dry tissue paper and sprinkle a little baking soda in it, arrange ginger on top. Spread a layer of dry paper and sprinkle baking soda on it. Keep the ginger box in a cool, dry place for storage. Check occasionally, if you see the ginger is wet, change the paper, add dry baking soda and dry the ginger.

Preserve ginger with rice

Use a paper towel to wipe the ginger thoroughly dry. Put the ginger in a bag of rice and tie it tightly for preservation. By doing this, the ginger will not wilt or sprout.

Store ginger in sand

You can also use sand to preserve ginger. Prepare some clean, dry sand. Put sand in the box and bury the ginger inside. Keep the ginger barrel in a cool, dry place. This way, you can keep fresh ginger for about half a year.

Using white vinegar

First, clean the residue on the surface of the ginger and then place it in a cool, ventilated place to dry the surface moisture.

Then prepare a sealed jar and put dried ginger in the jar. Next, we pour in vinegar, the amount of vinegar must completely cover the ginger.

There’s no specific vinegar choice: white vinegar, aged vinegar, or balsamic vinegar all work.

Finally, we just need to close the jar lid and leave it in a cool, dry place so the ginger can be preserved for a long time without going rancid.

When you need to eat, you can take the ginger out of the jar and eat it directly or use it as a delicious spice.

Slicing method

We can also store ginger in the freezer, but before putting it in the refrigerator we still need to prepare the ginger.

First, cut the washed and dried ginger into slices. Many people do not like to eat the ginger peel, so before cutting the ginger into slices, we can scrape off the ginger peel first.

After the ginger is cut into slices, let’s find a fresh-keeping bag or ginger container to wrap the ginger. Then close the lid and put the ginger directly into the freezer for preservation.Ginger preserved this way will still be fresh all year long. When you want to eat it, you don’t need to defrost it, just take one or two pieces out on a plate and you’re done, very convenient to eat.
