A highway patrol officer pulled over an elderly driver and, out of habit, decided to drop a standard warning: “Sir, just so you know, anything you say can and will be used against you.”
The old man groaned heavily from behind the wheel. “Don’t waste your breath, officer. I’ve been married for 45 years. Absolutely everything I’ve ever uttered has already been used against me—including my opening line on our first date.”
Right on cue, his wife leaned across the console from the passenger seat, arms tightly crossed. “And don’t you forget about that disastrous fishing trip in ’92, either! Or the time you told me I looked fine instead of beautiful!”
The cop blinked, stared at the couple, and slowly lowered his ticket book. “Sir… you’re not under arrest. I just pulled you over for a minor speeding violation.”
The old man let out a massive, heartfelt sigh of relief. “Speeding? Oh, thank heavens. At least this one just comes with a flat fine and not a three-hour lecture.”
The wife glared at him. “Keep talking, Harold, and you’ll get both.”
The officer slowly took a step back from the window and muttered:
“Never mind the ticket, sir. It looks like you’re already serving life without parole.”
