A firefighter was working on his engine outside the station when he spotted a little girl in a red wagon. She was wearing a tiny plastic fire helmet, and her wagon was fully equipped with miniature ladders and a coiled garden hose.
The impressive rig was being pulled down the sidewalk by her dog and her cat.
Smiling, the firefighter walked over. “That is one beautiful fire engine, little partner!” he said.
“Thanks!” the girl beamed.
But as the firefighter looked closer, he noticed something highly unusual. The pull rope was tied safely to the dog’s collar, but the other end was tied directly to the cat’s testicles.
Wincing, the firefighter knelt down. “Hey, sweetie,” he suggested gently. “If you tie that rope around your cat’s collar instead, you’d probably go a whole lot faster.”
The little girl thought about it for a moment, shook her head, and replied,
“You’re probably right, mister. But then I wouldn’t have a siren.”
