A kindergarten teacher passed out a fun coloring assignment to her classroom one afternoon. The page featured a whimsical cartoon drawing of a cheerful duck strolling along while holding a large umbrella.
Before the kids set to work, the teacher gave explicit instructions: “Alright class, I want everyone to color the duck a bright yellow, and color the umbrella a nice, vibrant green.”
But Little Johnny, the class’s notorious free spirit and rebel, had his own creative vision. He grabbed his favorite crayon and aggressively colored the entire duck a brilliant, fire-truck red.
As the teacher walked around the room reviewing the students’ progress, she stopped dead in her tracks at Johnny’s desk. She frowned slightly, looked down at his paper, and decided to use it as a teaching moment.
“Little Johnny,” she asked with a sigh, “tell me honestly… how many times in your life have you ever actually seen a red duck?”
Without missing a beat, Johnny looked up from his desk, smiled brightly, and replied:
“Exactly the same number of times I’ve seen a duck holding an umbrella, teacher!”
