A blonde recently landed a brand-new job as a high school physical education teacher for a class of active 16-year-olds.
On her very first day out on the grass, she stood back and watched the students play an intense, chaotic game of soccer. As she scanned the field, she noticed one young boy standing completely by himself at the far end of the turf, while all the other kids were running around, laughing, and aggressively chasing after the ball.
Feeling a deep wave of sympathy for the boy, she assumed he was being left out or felt too shy to join in. She decided to walk all the way over to the edge of the field to comfort him.
“Are you doing okay, sweetie?” she asked gently, giving him an encouraging smile.
“Yes, ma’am,” the boy replied, looking a bit confused.
“You know, you don’t have to stay over here by yourself,” she said warmly. “You can go right out there and play with the other kids whenever you want!”
The boy shook his head slightly. “No, it’s really best if I just stay right here.”
“Oh, why is that, honey?” the teacher asked, deeply concerned.
The boy looked at her with absolute incredulity, gestured to the giant net directly behind him, and sighed:
“Because I’m the goalie!”
