An elderly couple married for 50 years walks into a courtroom to file for divorce.
The judge flips through the paperwork, frowns at the silver-haired couple, and asks out of pure curiosity:
- “Ma’am, sir, you’ve been together for half a century and have a beautiful family. But according to the petition, the wife claims the husband hasn’t spoken a single word to her in the last 20 years. Is that true?”
The old woman nods aggressively, wipes her tears, and says:
- “That’s exactly right, Your Honor! He treats me like I’m invisible. For 20 straight years, he hasn’t uttered a single syllable to me. I can’t handle this silent treatment for another day!”
The judge slams his gavel down furiously, glares at the husband, and barks:
- “Sir! How on earth can you be so cruel and psychologically abusive to your wife by keeping a terrifying silence for two decades?!”
The old man calmly adjusts his reading glasses, lets out a heavy sigh, and replies deadpan:
- “Your Honor, I’m not being cruel. It’s just that for the last 20 years… I’ve been politely waiting for her to finish her sentence so I could finally chime in, but the problem is, she hasn’t stopped to catch her breath once!“
