The Empty Seat Had a Story Nobody Expected
A businessman receives tickets to an international football match as a gift from his company. At the stadium, he discovers he has a bad seat and can barely see anything.
Shortly after kickoff, he sees that there’s still a free seat near the halfway line. So he tries his luck and makes his way through the spectators, past the stewards, to the empty seat.
As he sat down, he asked his neighbor, “Excuse me, is anyone else sitting here?” “No,” the man replied. “Unbelievable!” said the businessman. “How on earth could you give up such a prime spot?” The man said, “To be honest, I had reserved the seat for my wife, but she p@ssed aw@y. This is the first time since our marriage in 1970 that I’ve gone to an international match without her.”
“My condolences,” said the businessman. “But couldn’t you bring someone else at short notice – for example, a relative or a good friend?” “No,” said the man, “they’re all at the funer@l.”
