The Flood and the Faithful Man
A historic flood hit a small town, submerging everything in water. Sam, a deeply religious man, quickly climbed onto the roof of his house. As the water began to reach his feet, he closed his eyes and prayed fervently, fully believing in a miracle.
A short while later, a rubber rescue boat rowed by. The rescue worker shouted through a megaphone:
– “Hey mister, the water is rising fast! Grab my hand and get into the boat!”
Sam opened his eyes, shook his head, and waved him away:
– “No need! I am a man of faith. I have prayed, and God will come down to save me Himself!”
The boat had to leave to save others.
A few hours later, the water was up to Sam’s chest. A large military boat approached the house, and an officer shouted from the deck:
– “The water is about to cover the roof, old man! Jump over here right now, or it will be too late!”
Shivering in the cold water, Sam remained steadfast:
– “You boys move along! My God will not abandon me!”
The second boat turned around and left.
Finally, when the water reached Sam’s chin, a rescue helicopter buzzed right over his head. The pilot dropped a rope ladder right in front of him and yelled over the loudspeaker:
– “Grab the ladder, we will pull you up!”
But Sam closed his eyes, refusing the ladder because he believed in a direct miracle from the Almighty.
The water rose over his head, and Sam dr0wned. When his soul arrived in heaven and met God, Sam asked with a bitter grievance:
– “Lord, I gave You all my faith and prayed without ceasing. Why did You leave me to drown like that?”
God looked at Sam with a heavy sigh and replied:
– “What do you mean I left you? I sent you two rescue boats and a helicopter, but you just insisted on refusing them!”
