The Secret to “Safe” Driving
A young man was riding shotgun as his grandfather took him for a drive in an old classic car through the city streets. The young man was incredibly anxious because his grandfather was nearly 90 years old and his eyesight wasn’t the greatest.
As they approached the first intersection, the traffic light turned a solid, bright red, but the grandfather completely ignored it, hit the gas, and sent the car flying straight through the intersection amidst a loud chorus of honking horns from other vehicles. The grandson turned pale as a ghost, gripped his seat, and screamed, “Grandpa! That was a red light! You almost gave me a heart attack!”
The grandfather calmly patted his grandson’s shoulder and said, “Relax, kid! My older brother has driven exactly like this for the past 40 years and nothing bad has ever happened to him!”
At the very next intersection, the traffic light was a clear, vibrant green, and all the cars were moving smoothly along. However, out of nowhere, the grandfather slammed on the brakes with a loud SCREECH, bringing the car to a dead stop right in the middle of the road. Cars behind them barely avoided crashing into them and began blaring their horns in absolute rage.
The grandson held his head in his hands, completely crying of frustration, and yelled, “Oh my god, Grandpa! It’s a green light! Why on earth would you make a dangerous, sudden stop like that?!”
`The grandfather stuck his head out the window, carefully looked both ways down the cross-street, and said seriously, “Are you stupid? Of course I have to stop! Who knows, my brother might be flying through from the other direction right now!”
