Staring into the pitch-black night, a navy captain spotted a blinking light directly ahead on a deadly collision course with his ship.
He immediately signaled: “Change your course ten degrees east.”
The light flashed back: “Change yours ten degrees west.”
Furious at the defiance, the captain signaled again: “I am a navy captain! Change your course, sir!”
“I’m a seaman, second class,” came the reply. “You change your course, sir.”
Brimming with rage, the captain sent a final, terrifying threat: “I am a heavily armored battleship! I do not alter my course for anything!”
The light blinked back one last time:
“Well, I’m a lighthouse. It’s your call.”
